As the deadline looms for Americans to finalize theirresolutions for 2013, financial planning is one focus that will notbe appearing on a many lists.

In the New Year's Resolution Survey from Allianz Life InsuranceCompany of North America (Allianz Life), 84% of respondents saidfinancial planning will not be among their resolutions for thecoming year. This is the highest percentage in the survey'sfour-year history.

In spite of the domestic and global financial crisis currentlyunderway, 32% of respondents believe they do not make enough moneyto “worry” about financial planning and 20% said they don't have afinancial professional to assist them—a 3% increase from 2011.However, 26% of respondents said they will not have a financialfocus in 2013 because they feel they already “have a solidfinancial plan.”

As the percentage of Americans giving less focus tofinancial planning goes up, so is the percentage ofrespondents less likely to seek advice from a financialprofessional—36% in 2012 from 31% in 2011. Those more likely toseek advice remained the same at 20% from 2011.

“It's alarming that Americans' willingness to ignore financialplanning in their New Year's Resolutions continues to go up yearafter year,” said Katie Libbe, vice president of Consumer Insightsfor Allianz Life. “With the responsibility for retirement securityshifting from employers to individuals, people need to become more,not less, active with financial planning to ensure they have enoughmoney to fund a retirement that could last up to 30 years.”

So, what are Americans' priorities for 2013? Health/wellness was at the top of the list for thesecond straight year at 44% of respondents followed by financialstability (32%), employment (15%) and education (6%). Forty-fourpercent of Americans say they are likely to keep up a diet orexercise routine while only 41% said they were likely to continueto manage money better.
