NCUA Board Chairman Debbie Matz on Friday announced theselection of Larry Blankenberger as the next director of theagency's Region I office in Albany, N.Y.

Blankenberger is currently the associate regional director for programs at theNCUA's Region IV office in Austin, Texas.

He assumes his regional director duties on Jan. 7, 2013, andsucceeds Mark A. Treichel, who was selected in October to fill the NCUA's executive directorposition left vacant by the retiring David Marquis. “I'm verypleased we have someone of Larry's caliber to lead our Region Ioffice,” Matz said. “Larry has an impressive depth of experience.He possesses the professional judgment, institutional knowledge,regulatory expertise and managerial skills that are so important tosucceeding in this critical enforcement position. I have everyconfidence that he'll do very well in this new role.”

Blankenberger joined the agency as an examiner in 1987. Hepreviously served as associate regional director for operations inRegion I, and his experience includes working as a problem caseofficer, a supervisory examiner and a director of supervision.Prior to joining NCUA, Blankenberger worked in various operationaland managerial positions in the credit union industry. “LarryBlankenberger brings a wealth of experience to the regionaldirector position,” NCUA Board Member Michael E. Fryzel added. “Ibelieve his knowledge of credit unions and management skills willenable him to do an outstanding job.” Blankenberger holds anaccounting degree from Indiana State University, Evansville. InJanuary 1988, he received the designation of Certified Credit UnionExecutive from the National Credit Union Institute.
