The $586 million Freedom Credit Union said Friday that it hasprovided $650,000 in low interest rate loans to 670 of its membershit hard by Hurricane Sandy when the storm swept overPhiladelphia.

The emergency relief loans were for up to $1,500 for 18 monthsand were approved quickly to allow members to begin their ownrecoveries from the mammoth storm, the credit union said in astatement.

The credit union quoted one member, Janice Jones, a JeffersonHospital employee: “Words can't express enough my gratitude forthis service at such a time like this. Thank you again forall that you have done.”

Freedom CU set aside $2 million for the loan fund and said applicationsfor the loans will be taken until the fund is exhausted or Dec.31.
