Senator-elect Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has been selected byparty leadership to join the Senate Banking Committee next year,according to Tuesday reports in Politico and theHuffington Post.

The caucus must still approve the committee makeup for the nextCongress; Warren will fill one of two open Democratic positionsfollowing the retirements of Sens. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.) and Daniel Akaka (D-Hawaii). Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) is expected to fill the otherposition.

Warren is a polarizing figure in the credit union industry,having been endorsed by the Massachusetts Credit Union League but reviled by conservatives due to her legacy as the architect ofthe Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which has heaped unwantedregulations upon credit unions.

In her victory speech Nov. 6, Warren named credit unions among herlist of supporters and said of groups that supported her campaign,“All of you have my back and I promise you, I'll have yourback.”
