The 10,000-member, $59 million Banner Federal Credit Union has partnered with Better ATM Services, a technology and prepaid card firm, in the rollout of what they call the first gift card that can be purchased from an ATM.
Dubbed the myGIFT card, carries the Discover brand and is made of a thin, durable material allowing cards to easily pass through an ATM’s cash mechanism and works like any other prepaid card, the Phoenix credit union said.
“Because prepaid cards have become the gift of choice for any occasion, we can now offer our members the flexibility to make one stop for all their banking and gift giving needs,” said Roger Swanson, president/CEO of Banner FCU.
In addition, every myGIFT card bought through the ATMs will generate a 50-cent donation to the Banner Health Foundation and used to make health care services available to the very needy.
Banner's field of membership comprises employees of Banner Health Systems and associated firms.
“This unique partnership with Banner Federal Credit Union and Better ATM Services provides a convenience for people visiting our facilities, while also supporting programs and services that wouldn’t exist without philanthropy,” said Banner Health Foundation President/CEO Andy Kramer Petersen
The patented technology is from Better ATM Services of Mesa, Ariz., whose CEO, Todd L. Nuttall, said, “It's natural for ATMs to be leveraged for prepaid products as well as cash. This is a game changer in the industry and marks the beginning of a new era of value-driven, consumer-focused prepaid card products with all the benefits of ATM security and convenience.”
