The 356,000 member, $3.4 billion Redstone Federal Credit Union, headquartered in Huntsville,Alabama formally opened Right Choice Money Services, a check cashing business locatedin lower income part of Decauter, Alabama.

The ribbon-cutting event attracted a crowd of approximately 50people. In attendance were Don Kyle, Mayor of Decatur; CharlieMiller, Chair of Right Choice Money Services; Joseph H. Newberry,President and CEO of Redstone Federal Credit Union; as well as anumber of Decatur Morgan County Chamber members.

“We have learned that many consumers – for various reasons –prefer or feel more comfortable handling their financial businessoutside of traditional banking,” remarked Peter Alvarez, RightChoice General Manager explained

“That's where Right Choice comes in. Right Choice'sinnovative business model combines the alternative financialservices offered by non-bank providers, like check cashers andpayday lenders, and provide a pathway or opportunity forestablishing a savings account and building credit. Because ofRight Choice's relationship with Redstone, people can easilytransition into full service credit union accounts, if theychoose.

Congress tasked credit unions throughout the nation in 1998 withserving people – especially of modest means — within theircommunities, the credit union explained, and Joseph H. Newberry,President and CEO of Redstone Federal Credit Union put Right Choicein that context.

“That is why Redstone decided to start Right Choice MoneyServices, the newest member of the Redstone Federal Credit Unionfamily,” Newberry explained. “Right Choice is a revolutionaryapproach in delivering safe, convenient and economical access to awide range of financial services for members of our community whochoose not to use a traditional bank or credit union.”
