As more cash mobs continue to pop up to support local smallbusinesses, even more credit unions are getting in on theaction.

The $196 million Yolo Federal Credit Union in Woodland, Calif., is the latest toprovide its patronage by hosting a cash mob on Nov. 16 along with the Davis Chamber of Commerceand the Davis Downtown Business Association.

The cash mob will be held at the G Street Shopping Center inDavis, Calif., which is home to the Food Co-op, Monticellorestaurant and other small businesses.

“The timing is perfect” said Christina Blackman, marketingmanager at Yolo. “Forgo cooking for one night and grab a bite outat Monticello's, then head over to Ken's and get your bike readyfor winter weather or pick up that bike light you'll need now thatit's getting dark earlier, and finally finish at the Co-op to grabthose items you'll need for Thanksgiving.”

Nina Gatewood, DDBA marketing coordinator, said Yolo, thechamber of commerce and DDBA have plans to host cash mobsthroughout 2013.

“Each of our organizations is committed to supporting localbusiness and our goal is to bring the community together to makingshopping local a priority,” Gatewood said.

Cash mobs, which are campaigns to support local businesses bybuying their products and services, continue to grow in popularity.Throughout the country, credit unions and CUSOs have participated in a number of cashmobs.
