Henriquez Joins Fla. Law Firm

Shutts & Bowen LLP announced that François Henriquez has joined the firm. Henriquez is the former president/CEO of U.S. Central Credit Union.

Henriquez will work in the Miami office as a member of the firm’s financial services industry practice group, practicing primarily in the section’s credit union law group.

“This is a significant addition to our firm. François has a top-notch national financial reputation and has had extensive experience in dealing with the nation’s senior financial industry regulators,” said Bowman Brown, chairman of Shutts & Bowen’s executive committee and of the firm’s financial services practice group. “We are committed to be a Florida firm with a global practice, and François added depth to our group and broadens our national footprint.”

Henriquez served as the president/CEO of U.S. Central Federal Credit Union during its recent conservatorship, operating the institution and winding up its affairs on behalf of the federal government. Previously, he had served as the institution’s senior vice president and general counsel, responsible for providing legal counsel on all areas of the company’s operations and representation in connection with the company’s governmental relations efforts.

“François’ work at the national corporate credit union level complements our nationwide practice serving retail credit unions perfectly,” said Michael Lozoff, dhair of Shutts & Bowen’s credit union law group. “He enjoys the highest respect in the industry both as a corporate lawyer and as a financial institutions senior executive.”

Prior to joining Shutts & Bowen, from September 1982 until November 1993, Henriquez was engaged in private legal practice, first as an associate with a major law firm in New York City and then as an associate and partner in two prominent Kansas City, Mo.-based law firms. While in private practice, Henriquez was an adjunct professor at the University of Kansas School of Law in Lawrence, Kan., where he taught banking law. He is a past board secretary of the National Credit Union Foundation and previously served as the vice chairman of the legislative and regulatory affairs committee of the Association of Corporate Credit Unions.

Henriquez received his J.D. from Columbia University Law School and his B.A. from Yale University.
