A 20-foot U-Haul truck filled with donated clothing, shoes andnon-perishable food collected by NCUA employees at the agency'sAlexandria, Va. office arrived at the New Jersey Credit UnionLeague Friday for distribution to credit union employees,volunteers and members displaced by Hurricane Sandy.

The league said in a Friday release after news of HurricaneSandy's major effects on New Jersey broke, NCUA Chairman DebbieMatz contacted the New Jersey Credit Union League with plans tocollect clothing for those in need. The collection began Nov.2.

Buddy Gill, the NCUA's senior strategic communications andexternal relations adviser, drove the truck from Washington toHightstown, N.J.

“We are so grateful to the agency. NCUA Chairman Debbie Matzvery quickly reached out to us to extend help, and she and NCUAdelivered,” said NJCUL President/CEO Paul Gentile. “I couldn't believe how packed NCUA's truck waswith clothing, water and dry goods. They did an amazing job. Ittook the League staff over an hour to unload because there was somuch.

NJCUL staff also collected clothing, blankets, pillows, andcanned goods, and Rutgers FCU also made a donation of clothing andfood to the lot. New Jersey credit unions interested indistributing the donations to people and communities in need cancontact the League to coordinate a pick-up date and time nextweek.

“We will now quickly get these goods out to those most impactedby the storm. It will bring relief to displaced families. On behalfof all New Jersey credit unions, we thank NCUA for theirextraordinary effort,” Gentile said
