CAP COM, the $972 million federal credit union based in Albany,N.Y., has announced that it has won substantial member adoption ofits recently introduced mobile remote deposit capture app that letsmembers who own an iPhone or Android snap an image of a check anddeposit the item electronically.

Corrie Jayne Foust, manager of electronic services at the96,000-member institution, said that in the first two weeks afterthe apps' debut on Oct. 15, 1,000 members had downloaded it and, collectively, they had deposited 700 items totaling more than$200,000.

Forty-four percent of the members who had downloaded the app andenrolled in the CAP COM service had in fact made a mobile remotedeposit in the first two weeks the app was out.

Foust elaborated that marketing of the service – built into anapp developed for the credit union by ProfitStars and centered on image software from Mitek Systems – has been minimal. Pent up member demand hasapparently been so strong that they have been finding the app ontheir own.

The CAP COM mobile RDC requires a separate app; it is not builtinto the credit union's existing mobile banking app. Despitethat, said Foust, demand has remained brisk.

“We have been delightfully surprised,” she said.

CAP COM imposes no fees on members for using mobileRDC.

Foust added that, thus far, problems and issues encountered bymembers have been scarce. “We did exhaustive preparationbefore rolling this out,” she added.
