Janet Dougherty, Neshaminy High School business education teacher, plants a kiss on Bubbles, the pot-bellied pig from Ross Mill Farms in Rushland, Pa.

Twenty-one community leaders, business professionals, educators and Philadelphia media figures puckered up to plant one on a pig in the finale of the second-annual Kiss-a-Pig Financial Literacy Fundraiser sponsored by the $1.4 billion TruMark Financial Credit Union in Trevose, Pa.

The pig kissing took place on Oct. 3 at the Piazza at Schmidt’s in Philadelphia where the participants showed some love to Bubbles, a resident of an area farm.

This year’s event raised more than $35,000, more than doubling last year’s inaugural pig kissing from TruMark.

“Pennsylvania public schools have witnessed huge cuts in their budgets with more proposed in the upcoming year. As a result, vital programs will be eliminated,” the credit union said in a statement.

“The Kiss A Pig Financial Literacy Fundraiser will provide much needed resources to teach the fundamentals of saving, borrowing, and investing, making a positive influence on the financial futures of young adults,” TruMark Financial said.
