The $49.3 billion Navy Federal Credit Union said it planned toopen its 32nd branch in California on Monday in MissionViejo.

The credit union's new branch will serve approximately 8,700Department of Defense, military and civilian members and theirfamilies in Orange County, the 4 million-member credit unionsaid.

“I'm very excited to be joined by the Mission Viejo Chamber ofCommerce at the grand opening of our branch and proud to be a partof Navy Federal Credit Union as a whole,” said David Inglis, branchmanager. “This is a wonderful, vibrant military community that welook forward to serving.”

Virginia-based Navy Federal said it now has 224 branches worldwide and more than 10,000 employees.

The credit union said it also has set Oct. 13 as its nexttwice-annual Navy SHRED-eral shredding day to help members andnon-members protect their identities. Up to four boxes of personaldocuments will be shredded for free at a record 53 branches in 15states and the District of Columbia this year, the credit unionsaid.
