Fiserv Inc. said its ACCEL/Exchange payments network saw a 29% increase in volume last year over 2010, setting a new mark of more than 1.5 billion point-of-sale and ATM transactions.

The company said 151 million transactions were processed in December alone and that nearly 250 financial institutions joined the network last year, bringing the total to more than 3,000.

"We continue to enhance the network to make it more valuable to our financial institution members, enabling them to provide their cardholders with secure payments and convenient funds access," said David Keenan, general manager, Network Solutions at Fiserv in Brookfield, Wis.
