Uninsured Deposits Drain: A Different Flight to Safety
Consumers may be bringing their deposits into credit unions but they’re less comfortable with uninsured shares during economic downturns like now. You can watch the graphic above as uninsured shares grew between June 2003 and June 2008 from $46.7 million or 9% of deposits to $76.4 million or 11% of deposits. Uninsured shares dropped to $24.1 million or 3% of deposits as of June 2009, but are climbing back up and were at $31.5 million or 4% of deposits as of June 2011.
