It may be no surprise that the number of credit unions that have investments in CUSOs have grown over the last five years.
The bulk of that growth came from credit unions with more than $1 billion in assets, according to data as of December 2010 from Callahan and Associates. Those under $10 million experienced the smallest percent of growth. Looking at money loaned to CUSOs from 2005 to 2010, the amount peaked in 2007, dropped in 2008 and rebounded in 2009. Meanwhile, money invested in CUSOs grew each year.
