The Credit Union Foundation of Maryland & DC is now offering a credit union locator application through Apple's iTunes app store.
The Credit Union Finder application allows users to find credit unions anywhere in the country by searching by name, ZIP code, city or state. Results, contact information and a Web address are displayed as either a list or on a map.
The foundation developed the mobile application using an Innovation Grant from the National Credit Union Foundation, as well as graphics support from Visions Ink and nationwide credit union-provided data.
The application works on iPhones, iPads and the iPod Touch, the Maryland/D.C. foundation said, and already has been downloaded more than 900 times.
Credit unions can use the app themselves. For example, the $336 million Securityplus FCU in Baltimore set up a Web page that uses the app to promote Credit Union Finder to their membership so that "members have an easy and free means for our members to stay in touch with us," said its CEO, Rick Williams.
