Thompson Named CEO of Dakota-Based Mid-America Association

Mid-America Credit Union Association has named Robbie Thompson, vice president/ general counsel of the $280 million Members Cooperative Credit Union of Cloquet, Minn. as its new president/CEO.

Thompson fills a vacancy in the top management left last September following the resignation of Tony Richards, a former Pittsburgh CU consultant who held the helm of the Bismarck, N.D.-based trade group for three years. Thompson, with 20 years in the financial services industry, previously served as association general counsel of the Minnesota Credit Union Association. Prior to that, he was senior vice president of league services and general counsel for the New Jersey Credit Union League.

Formal announcement of Thompson's appointment was made over the weekend during Mid-America's annual meeting in Sioux Falls. Doug Thompson, chairman of Mid America and president/CEO of Aberdeen FCU in South Dakota, said Robbie Thompson is well known among Dakota CEOs noting "his background in working directly in credit unions as well association leadership and his 'hands-on' experience in professional trade association advocacy will be a valuable asset to our credit union members across the Dakotas." Thompson is a member of the American Bar Association and the Minnesota Bar Association. He has a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota-Morris, and Juris Doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law.
