Carolina Postal Credit Union Swaps Fees for Food
This past December, Carolina Postal Credit Union helped fill local Food Banks while waiving member fees.
To encourage members to donate food during the holidays the Charlotte, N.C.-based credit union offered to refund one fee incurred in 2009 to members who donated a large item of food throughout the month of December. The refunded fee could be anything from a $1 ATM charge to a $29 NSF-members' choice.
Food collection boxes could be found in Carolina Postal CU branch lobbies, and the $82 million credit union spread the word via branch posters, banners on its Web site and through local media.
Donations collected were sent to local area Food Banks at each of the five Carolina Postal CU branches.
