United FCU Chairman Steinke Passes Away

United Federal Credit Union is mourning the death of Chairman John Steinke.
Dedicated to the St. Joseph, Mich.-based credit union, Steinke served on the board for over 40 years and held the chairman's position since 1994. He is credited with helping the credit union grow to over $1.1 billion in assets serving some 95,100 members.
Holding various positions in control and research at Whirlpool Corp., Steinke retired after 37 years of service. A believer in community service, he lent his expertise to AARP tax counseling and preparation and served as past president of the Lakeshore Public School Board of Education and past president of the Berrien County 4-H Foundation. Equally active in the credit union community, Steinke also served as past director of the Michigan Credit Union League and past chairman of the Southwest Chapter of Credit Unions.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth, and three children.
