N.Y. CU Leaders Lobby Congress

Representatives from all 14 chapters of the Credit Union Association of New York and executives of the association went to Washington recently to discuss issues such as member business lending and the Community Reinvestment Act with lawmakers.

They met with Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), a member of the Banking Committee, and with other member's of the state's 31 member-delegation or their staffs. Schumer has said he plans to introduce legislation to raise the cap on member business loans and the group delivered letters from small-business owners about the need for more capital.

"We had an excellent dialogue with the senator, and our meeting concluded with him expressing his support for credit unions," said association President William J. Mellin.
