Mid-Atlantic's First CEO John Bixler Jr. Passes

Mid-Atlantic Corporate Federal Credit Union's first president/CEO, John H. Bixler Jr., passed away Aug. 17.
Bixler served as president/CEO of the now $4 billion corporate until his retirement in 1989. He was a corporate credit union pioneer, organizing what is now Mid-Atlantic as early as the late 1960s. The corporate was chartered in 1976 and shared board members, management and staff with Pennsylvania Central FCU in its early years with Bixler at the helm.
Prior to leading Pennsylvania Central, he also worked at CenPenn Rail Federal Credit Union, now the $27 million Blue Chip Federal Credit Union.
"It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of John Bixler, a great and dedicated credit union leader. John's commitment to the credit union movement was always evident, especially in his belief that the system is the solution to meet the needs of credit unions," stated Jay Murray, Mid-Atlantic's current president/CEO.
Pennsylvania Credit Union Association President/CEO Jim McCormack called Bixler "one of the great leaders of the credit union movement in Pennsylvania."
"John was a caring, thoughtful, and decisive leader," McCormack said.
