Former N.Y. League Chairman Kucera Passes

The Credit Union Association of New York is mourning the loss of former chairman Miles Kucera who was recently killed in a fatal car crash on Long Island. He was 78 years old.

Kucera had been involved in the credit union movement since he began Suffolk FCU from the trunk of his car over 40 years ago. Since that time he served as a member of the credit union's board of directors, helping to build the organization into the $840 million credit union it is today. In 2007, the credit union's new headquarters was dedicated in Kucera's name.

Kucera has also been credited with helping the association establish policies designed to benefit all of New York's credit unions. He served on the association's board of directors from 1986-2000 and as its chair from 1995-1997. Kucera was honored for his dedication to services in 2004 when he was inducted into the Credit Union Association of New York's Credit Union Hall of Fame.

"Miles' leadership and dedication to Suffolk FCU and the credit union movement will be sorely missed," said association President/CEO William J. Mellin. "Throughout his long tenure, he had a significant impact on the stature of credit unions."

Kucera is survived by his two children, Matthew and Marcia, and four grandchildren. Delphine, his wife of 45 years, passed away earlier this year.
