Texas Sunset Body Hears From League
AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Sunset Advisory Commission last week reiterated its support for state-chartered CUs in its campaign to protect dual chartering and possible consolidation of state and federal agencies.<p>"With all the financial upheaval today on Wall Street and in Washington, it is important that Texas state-chartered [credit unions] continue to operate under a structure that has proven successful," said a spokesperson for the Texas Credit Union League.</p><p>At a commission hearing, Richard Ensweiler, president/CEO of the league, testified on a staff report. He said CUs are heartened that the commission members agreed that the Texas Credit Union Department should continue operating for another 12 years.</p><p>The commission is slated to hold one more set of hearings Dec. 16-17 before presenting final recommendations to the Texas Legislature for its 2009 session.</p><p> </p><p> </p>
