BayPort Credit Union, Newport News, Va.,awarded more than $50,000 in its annual scholarship. BayPort gave20 students from the Greater Hampton Roads area scholarships.Catesby Jones delivered a speech about the formation and growth ofhis company, Peace Frogs, at the scholarship banquet. Since 1961,BayPort has awarded more than $375,000 in scholarships.

Dutch Point Credit Union, Wethersfield, Conn.,awarded $1,000 scholarships to five recipients through the newDorothy J. Sullivan scholarship program launched in 2007. Theprogram was created to honor the achievements of Dorothy J.Sullivan, Dutch Point's previous president/CEO and first employee.The recipients were Jennifer Andrews, who will attend theUniversity of Connecticut, Andrew Glass, who will attend ElonUniversity, Huy Hoang, who will attend Villanova University, JackPennito, who will attend Boston University, and Alyssa Woronik, whowill attend Sacred Heart University.

American Heritage Federal Credit Union,Philadelphia, offered five college scholarships to credit unionmembers. American Heritage selected recipients based on scholarlymerits, community and school involvement, a letter ofrecommendation and an essay on the importance of using earth'sresources effectively. Each recipient was presented with a $1,000undergraduate college scholarship. Recipients were Amanda Suffian,Casey Sullivan, Danielle Pote, Elizabeth Glinka and JohnPrendergast.

Consumers Credit Union, Kalamazoo, Mich.,awarded scholarships to four students. Each student received $1,000to use toward college tuition of other related expenses. ZacharyButton, Ryan Karnemaat, Stephanie Marie Smith and JessicaSonnenberg were the recipients. Button will be attending KalamazooCollege to major in engineering and management. Karnemaat will beattending Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology to major inmathematics and physics. Smith will be attending Western MichiganUniversity and plans to major in nursing. Sonnenberg will beattending Kalamazoo Valley Community College and plans to become aphysician's assistant.

Stark County Chapter of Credit Unions, Massillon,Ohio, announced the winners of its 2008 annual scholarship award.Jennifer Reink was this year's $500 scholarship recipient. Reinkgraduated from Hoover High School in North Canton, Ohio, and hasparticipated in extracurricular activities that include: TeenInstitute, Key Club, student council, executive board historian,mock trial, National Honors Society, REACH and Choice. She willattend the University of Akron BSMD program with plans to attendthe Northeast Ohio Universities College of Medicine.

FAIRWINDS Credit Union, Orlando, Fla., awardedscholarships to five high school seniors in Orange and Seminolecounties. Each recipient will receive $1,500 to an accreditedcollege or university. The recipients were Jessica Mitchell,John-Gabriel Gonzalez, Ryan Griffin, Kara Large and JessicaMiller.

Visions Federal Credit Union, Endicott, N.Y.,announced that five members were awarded college scholarships inthe 2008 Credit Union Association of New York scholarship program.Students were eligible to win scholarships on three differencecredit union levels: state, chapter and local. Winners of the $500scholarship at the state level were Christopher Madl and Adam Davisof Vestal, N.Y.; James Muallally of Apalachin, N.Y.; and JaimeWright of Johnson City, N.Y., each won a $500 scholarship award bySouthern Tier Credit Unions. Thomas Dragon of Owego, N.Y., was thewinner of a $500 scholarship from Visions. The recipients werechosen for their outstanding performance in academics,extracurricular achievements and dedication to theircommunities.

Mountain America Credit Union, Salt Lake City,awarded eight students with scholarships. Five recipients received$1,500 for the Paul Ball scholarship. The recipients were KentBusco, Zephyr Glass, Staci Harris, Shannon Holt and Kylene Jones.Three recipients received the Mountain American Credit Union/UtahPublic Employees' Association scholarship for $1,000 each. Therecipients were Semin Feukic, Brianne Garrett and KourtneyFarnsworth.

UVA Community Credit Union, Charlottesville,Va., presented high school seniors from 11 public high schools inits field of membership a scholarship of $1,500. Scholarshiprecipients were Alycia McDonald, Michael Rafaly, Melanie SuzanneBianco, Ian Thomas Wendell, Stephanie Jordan O'Connell, ArthurMalik Conley, Chessie R. Pardue, Cassidy Sickman, Danielle R.Estes, Holly Albertson and Brittaney Shifflett.
