ALBANY, N.Y. -- Financial literacy, allowing governments to deposit funds in credit unions and a dose of state politics were the big items on the agenda of the New York State Credit Union League's annual conference late last month.
Members participated in 81 Hike the Hill meetings with state lawmakers and their staffs. They discussed pending bills such as a proposal to allow credit unions to accept municipal deposits and a bill to expand financial education in high schools.
John Parfrey, director of the NEFE High School Financial Planning Program, spoke to the audience about financial education and a political briefing was given by lobbyists Bob Bellafiore and Steven Greenberg.
