Bethpage Sponsors Fonz Book Signing

HUNTINGTON, N.Y. -- Bethpage Federal Credit Union partnered with Book Revue, an independent bookstore in Huntington, N.Y., to sponsor author events throughout the year. This months author event featured actor, producer and author Henry Winkler.

Winkler, known as the Fonz from the television series "Happy Days" is the author of 14 books based on a character named Hank Zipzer. The character is a fourth grader with dyslexia. Winkler shared his firsthand knowledge about difficulties stemming from dyslexia and signed copies of his books.

Aside from sponsoring the author events, Bethpage also offers to buy new members their next book. Upon opening a checking account, new Bethpage members can present a Book Revue receipt and Bethpage will deposit the cost of the book up to $25.

CMN Miracle Maker at Desert Schools

PHOENIX -- Desert Schools Federal Credit Union has its very own Miracle Maker.

Desert Schools FCU Senior Vice President Ron Amstutz recently received the Credit Unions for Kids Miracle Maker Award from the Children's Miracle Network.

"Ron's commitment to Children's Miracle Network and the Credit Unions for Kids program has been remarkable over the last decade. We are grateful for his support and congratulate him on this well-deserved honor," said Credit Unions for Kids Executive Director Joe Dearborn.

Amstutz received the award as the driving force behind major fundraising efforts for the Phoenix Children's Hospital's, 1 Darn Cool School, an on-site classroom facility that benefits long-term patients.

"Ron gives a tremendous amount of his personal time and energy every year and, as a result, has had an enormous positive impact on the school program at Phoenix Children's," said Andrea Miller, CMN program director at Phoenix Children's Hospital. "We are thrilled that his efforts have been noticed and rewarded with this prestigious honor."

In 2007, the credit union's members, employees and sponsors contributed $340,000 to Phoenix Children's Hospital. The funds are raised through a variety of events all year from an annual golf tournament and branch change drives to an employee BBQ, Bowl-a-Thon and online donations.

Desert Schools is the top credit union in the nation for funds raised for the Children's Miracle Network raising more than $1.5 million since 1998.
