SSFCU Saves Water, Lowers Costs

SAN ANTONIO -- Security Service Federal Credit Union is doing its part for the environment.

SSFCU saved more than 2.6 million gallons of water in 2007 after implementing a new water conservation program at its 16-acre corporate headquarters.

"We appreciate the need for conserving our natural resources and are proud to be able to do our part," said SSFCU President/CEO David Reynolds. "We know that the proactive steps we take today will pay dividends for our community and environment in the future."

High-tech software, Aquador.NET, provided by Acequia not only allows SSFCU to determine the precise amount of water necessary to irrigate its landscape without consuming additional, wasted water but also generates remote adjustments, over the Internet, to accommodate precipitation and temperature changes.

Reynolds said the success of the program has resulted in lower operating costs, a 50% reduction in consumption, and "most importantly, the conservation of a diminishing natural resource."
