ATLANTA -- More than 450 credit union financial advisors participated in CUNA Brokerage Services Inc's. recent week-long national sales conference aimed at enhancing reps' development and taking their businesses to the next level.
FOCUS 2008 featured more than 40 workshops designed to deliver motivation, knowledge, insight and best practices to the 458 who attended the CBSI event at the Sheraton Atlanta. The various curriculum tracks provided reps with choices based on their individual and business needs. Topics included retirement income planning, structuring annuity contracts, gifting strategies, Six Sigma investing, unified managed accounts and investing in real estate.
Many of the workshops were structured to meet continuing education credit requirements, according to CUNA Mutual. Annual compliance training was also offered.
Joseph Vierhile, senior vice president/senior financial advisor of LCU Financial Services, LLC, called FOCUS 2008 "best in class in the industry."
"Having spent many, many years at the largest firm on Wall Street and having attended many such national sales meetings, this was, without question, the best to date," Vierhile said.
"FOCUS 2008 presented a great opportunity to hear and learn from the best," said Micah DiSalvo, senior manager of Rep Support Services for CBSI.
Featured speakers included Bill Bachrach, named one of the "four most influential people in the financial services industry" by Financial Planning Magazine; author and former president of the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers, Pat Croce; and Jerry Linenger, a former NASA astronaut who survived a series of life-threatening events while living aboard the Russian Space Station Mir during his five-month space mission.
CBSI also recognized three individuals for their outstanding 2007 performances:
- Swan Shen, Advisory Services Representative of the Year;
-Frank Feng, Financial Services Representative of the Year;
- Leah-Beth Williams, Registered Member Financial Services Rep of the Year;
