Tempe Schools CU Earns National Nod for VITA Program

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Tempe Schools Credit Union has received an honorable mention from the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Program for its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

The program, which utilizes Tempe Schools CU staffers and other trained volunteers, provides tax preparation to low-income families in Tempe and Guadalupe for free. The program has been in place at the credit union since 2004 and is run by Tempe Schools Chief Financial Officer/Senior Vice President Margaret Hunnicutt. The VITA program runs every Saturday through April 12, 2008.

In honor of the national recognition, the City of Tempe recently issued a proclamation claiming Feb. 7, 2008 as "Tempe Schools Credit Union Day."

"The City of Tempe recognizes Tempe Schools Credit Union, its chief financial officer, and employees for their outstanding contribution to reducing poverty and helping to achieve financial equity for all Tempeans thereby improving the quality of life for all residents and businesses in our community," stated the proclamation.

The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Program was established to encourage credit union and chapter involvement in community projects and activities.
