Langley FCU Reports Results in 'Greening' of Bill Pay

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Langley Federal Credit Union is touting the "green" ethos as well as the greenbacks it saves in promoting its new electronic bill pay service.

The $1.2 billion CU said promoting the ecological advantages of its PayLynx online bill pay service from PSCU Financial Services has helped drive a three-month growth in online subscribers from 2,998 members to 6,802.

The fall promotion included newsletter and Web articles, teller handouts, posters and statement inserts, contests, and newspaper advertising.

PSCU Financial Services said it is now developing a turnkey Going Green Marketing Toolkit to help credit unions promote the environmental impact of online bill payments.

"Household bill payers, most of whom are women, support efforts to help the environment and appreciate credit unions who offer 'green' options," according to David Serlo, president/CEO of PSCU Financial Services in St. Petersburg, Fla.

"Credit unions are offering a valuable service to both their local community and the nation by publicizing the environmental benefits of online bill payment," said Serlo, whose organization is the nation's largest CUSO and serves more than 1,100 credit unions with a variety of payment and processing services.
