Nevada FCU Raises $10,000 as Part of Radio DJ Stunt

LAS VEGAS -- A fundraising stunt by a Las Vegas radio DJ who slept in a tent atop a 25 foot by 25 foot parking lot for 12 days got big time help from Nevada Federal Credit Union, which contributed $10,000 and paid for a tote board along the a highway showing the latest public tally.

The purpose of the aerial stunt by KLUC radio station DJ Chet Buchanan of the "Morning Zoo" was to raise funds toward the purchase of Christmas bikes for disadvantaged Las Vegas youngsters.

"We were proud to be part of such a great cause," said Paul Parrish, executive vice president and chief financial officer. "You can't doubt the commitment that Chet and the Morning Zoo and their listeners have towards the kids in the community when you see the final totals of their efforts."

In addition to the $10,000 donation and the tote board, the $750 million Nevada Federal helped raise more than $67,000 in gift cards, fill 13 50-foot trucks and collect 2,392 bikes for the disadvantaged youngsters.

The fundraiser started Nov. 29 in a parking lot of the local power company where the DJ climbed atop the platform complete with port-a-potties and tent, spending the 12 days. Beside Nevada FCU, other sponsors included Albertsons grocery chain, Findlay Toyota, Valley Health Systems, and Embarq.
