Mitchell Named New Velocity President

AUSTIN, Texas -- Larry Strong, veteran president/CEO of the $425 million Velocity Credit Union here, has given up his title as president, with previous Chief Operating Officer Debbie Mitchell assuming that job.

Mitchell becomes the first female to hold the presidency at the 60-year-old Austin CU.

The CU emphasized that Strong, 60, will continue as CEO, noting the management change follows Strong's heart surgery last January.

Strong, who joined the staff in 1971 and became president in 1987, will also become a director of the CU in 2008.

Mitchell, 43, who has been with the CU 23 years, most recently led Velocity through a re-naming/rebranding campaign and major branch expansion. Taking over as COO is Jack Jordan, formerly Velocity's senior vice president.
