LANCASTER, S.C. -- Founders Federal Credit Union, title sponsor for the Raise a Racket Classic, along with other local sponsors helped raised over $84,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
The grand slam weekend event featured a two-day tennis tournament and a VIP party where over 200 sponsors and guests enjoyed Raise a Racket Classic Cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and an unmatched live and silent auction.
Auction items included trips, jewelry, sports memorabilia and even a one of a kind pinball machine autographed by NASCAR greats Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Rick Hendrix.
Founders employees spent months preparing for the first annual event--even reaching out to other local companies to personally ask for their sponsorship for this meaningful fundraising event. Local companies that donated over $3,000 to the cause, included Lancaster Jewelers, Comporium, Kevin's Gems, Logoworks, The Rocket Group and Stanford.
"St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is a cause we knew the community would want to support," said Founders FCU President/CEO Bruce Brumfield, "St. Jude is unlike any other pediatric treatment and research facility anywhere. Their discoveries have completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases."
Several people even took home trophies after the tennis tournament. Men's Division 1st place winners were Steve Williams and Steve Lambert. Men's Division 2nd place winners were Pat Goldsmith and Craig Butler. Women's Division 1st place winners were Barbara Tolbert and Paula Cortina. Women's Division 2nd place winners were Sara Hill and Novella Kirkland.
