RIVERWOODS, Ill. — A survey from the Discover Card brand hasfound that men will spend the most money on their wives this comingMother's Day, the second most on their own mothers, and thesmallest amount on their mothers-in-law.

The survey found that men plan to spend an average of $91 ontheir wife, $74 on their mother and $50 on their mother-in-law forMother's Day.

The survey also found that 19% of “Mother's Day” shoppers saidthey intend to purchase a gift card, while twice as many momsindicated that they would like to receive one and 72% would prefera general purpose gift card as opposed to a store specific one.

In other findings, 58% of the responders cited no expirationdate or loss of value as the best features of a gift card. Otherfavored gift card features included the general purpose card; beingable to choose the denomination and Mother's Day art.Interestingly, only 28% cited the ability to emboss the recipient'sname and add a message. The majority of respondents said that theytend to spend more on Mother's Day than Father's Day.
