Portman Named New OMB Director

WASHINGTON-Former Congressman Rob Portman of retirement legislation `fame' has been named by President George W. Bush as his pick for the next director of the Office of Management and Budget. Portman, a close Bush family friend according to Reuters' reports, is currently serving as the current U.S. trade representative. Deputy Trade Representative Susan Schwab was nominated as his replacement. However, both appointments require Senate confirmation. Former OMB Director Josh Bolten was recently named the new White House Chief of Staff as the president shakes up his top officials during his second term. OMB recently reviewed NCUA's member service data collection pilot, which set the Aug. 31 deadline for the project. White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan has also announced his departure in the next few weeks. There has been a lot of speculation that Treasury Secretary John Snow, who has strongly supported the credit union tax-exemption, could be the next to go.
