BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - U.S. Representative Mark Kennedy (R-Minn.), first elected to Congress in 2000 and a long-time credit union supporter, was the keynote speaker earlier this month at the Minnesota Credit Union Network's Annual Meeting & Convention held April 7-8. Kennedy is running for the U.S. Senate in the November elections to fill the seat that will be vacated by Sen. Mark Dayton at the end of this term. He faces a formidable democratic opponent in Hennepin County Attorney Amy Klobuchar in that race. Speaking to a crowd of some 200 credit union professionals and volunteers, Kennedy said he and credit unions are "in the same business - the American dream business," and he thanked credit unions for helping every day people realize their dreams. Kennedy complimented credit unions for their grassroots efforts and thanked MnCUN lobbyists for their work. He also reiterated his support for credit unions' tax-exempt status.
