RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. -The advocacy ad campaign of the California/Nevada Credit Union Leagues has received unexpected praise from a California Congresswoman. Speaking at a CCUL fund-raiser at Kinecta FCU in Manhattan Beach, U.S. Rep. Juanita Millender-McDonald, a Democrat representing Los Angeles' South Bay, said she was so delighted in hearing about CU community services programs via the ads, she almost had to stop her car on the freeway. Millender-McDonald is a five-term member of Congress and the first African-American woman to be ranking member on the powerful Committee on House Administration, which oversees operations of the House of Representatives, the Library of Congress and the Smithsonian Institute. Her remarks "were unsolicited and came at the start of her talk" before lawmakers and civic leaders, said a CCUL press release. The league said a new series of radio and print ads in its Public Advocacy Program was kicked off Jan. 9 with ad messages focusing on CU activities in local communities.
