MECHANICSBURG, Pa.-Bob Marquette, CEO of Members 1st FederalCredit Union, said the institution will file to act as intervenorsin the American Bankers Association lawsuit against NCUA regardingits community charter. “We are very hopeful in fighting the latestbanker attack,” Marquette said. He emphasized that the credit unionhas opened 10 new branches over the last two years it has had thecommunity-based field of membership in good faith. Members 1st'sformal response is currently being drafted. NCUA had obtained anextension through Feb. 6 to file a response to the Nov. 1 lawsuitchallenging NCUA's application of the local, well-defined communitydefinition. Members 1st was approved for a multiple county field ofmembership two years ago. “We're serving a lot more people fromSouth Central Pennsylvania than we ever have before and they're thewinners,” Marquette said. He added that the credit union's annualmember satisfaction survey ranks it regularly in the 98thpercentile. No other interested credit union parties have madetheir intentions in the case public.
