In the days leading up to Hurricane Rita, the Texas Credit Union League assembled emergency numbers for 250 credit union executives, set up a call center to answer the questions of 150,000 credit-union members and provided workspace for two of the hardest hit in TCUL's offices in Farmers Branch, Texas. TCUL also helped expedite admission to Member Service Centers Inc., a shared-branching network with access to more than 1,900 U.S. locations. As of 7 p.m. Oct. 4, here was the status of the 34 affected by the storm: Assumption Beaumont FCU (Beaumont): Fully operational. Beaumont Area Educators FCU (Beaumont): Electricity restored to all locations, except for the branch at Lamar University. Members could write checks up to $200 at MSC shared branches. Beaumont Municipal Employees CU (Beaumont): Members could access funds electronically, use Internet services and wire funds. Temporary offices running from Smart Financial CU in Houston. Beaumont Telco FCU (Beaumont): Both locations fully operational. BRC Beaumont FCU (Beaumont): Partly operational. Coburn CU (Beaumont): Power restored and partly operational. DuPont Beaumont FCU and Goodrich Community FCU (Beaumont, Lumberton, Nederland, Port Neches and Orange): Beaumont and Lumberton branches and both headquarters operational. Goodrich has expedited membership in the MSC and DuPont was scheduled to join late in the week. DuPont SRW Employees FCU (Orange): No power. Members could access ATMs and make electronic transactions. Eastex Employee FCU (Evadale, Kirbyville, Silsbee): Fully operational. Firestone Community FCU (Orange): Power restored but operating through AggieLand CU in Bryan. FivePoint FCU (Beaumont, Port Arthur, Lumberton and Bridge City): Port Arthur headquarters sustained heavy damage and was providing service through a mobile branch sent by PrimeWay FCU in Houston. Beaumont branch had power and was fully operational. Golden Triangle FCU (Groves): Headquarters sustained significant damage and was operating from Chocolate Bayou Community FCU in Alvin. Government Service CU (Port Arthur): Offices closed but operating online. Gulf Employees CU (Groves): Power restored and fully operational. Check cashing available through three shared locations in Houston and Sugar Land. Gulfco FCU (Beaumont): Partly operational and processing member transactions. IBEW Community FCU (Beaumont): Power restored and fully operational. Key FCU (Beaumont, Port Arthur): Both branches closed with member access through MCS network. Market Basket FCU (Nederland): Power restored and partly operational. MCT CU (Port Neches, Nederland, Orange): Access to ATM and electronic transactions. Live on the MSC network. MobilOil FCU (Beaumont, Neches, Jasper): Internet and interactive services operational with database and deposits up to date. Drive-in service in Beaumont with mobile unit operating in Jasper. CEO running the credit union from a hotel in Baytown. Neches-Huntsman FCU (Port Neches): Live on the MCS network, providing normal electronic services and operational at one branch in Port Neches. Other branches closed until further notice. Orange County Employees CU (Orange): Established temporary office at Mauriceville Middle School and scheduled for temporary move to the local municipal airport. Orange County Teachers CU (Orange): Fully operational. Pear Orchard FCU (Beaumont): Small emergency cash withdrawals could be made by phone through Pelican State CU based in Baton Rouge, La. Port Arthur Teachers CU (Port Arthur): Established temporary operations at Anderson County CU in Palestine. Public Employees CU (Beaumont branch): Beaumont branch closed but Austin branch fully operational. Access to MCS network. Funds could be wired. SAFE CU (Beaumont): Members could access funds through debit cards. MSC membership was scheduled for the end of last week. Southeast Texas Employees CU: Reestablishing services. Members could cash checks up to $250 at Harris County FCU. T&FS Employees CU (Port Arthur): Members could cash checks or make small cash withdraws by phone through Pelican State CU. Texas Coastal Community FCU (Beaumont): Electronic and ATM access. Transactions allowed four hours per day at the Goodyear plant in Beaumont. Toledo Bend Teachers CU (Hemphill): Fully operational. Union Pacific Employees CU (Beaumont): Fully operational. Vidor Teachers FCU (Vidor): Small cash withdrawals through Pelican State CU. Source: Texas Credit Union League
