Two Arizona CUs Donate to Relief Fund
PHOENIX - With Phoenix serving as a growing center for Katrina evacuees, two of the state's largest credit unions, Arizona Federal and Desert Schools, have made donations to disaster relief funds and created programs for members to contribute cash. The $1.4 billion Arizona Federal said it will match up to $50,000 in funds donated by employees and members to the Red Cross Relief Fund and is separately donating $10,000 to the National Credit Union Foundation fund. Arizona FCU also is donating computer equipment and sending employees to CUs in the impacted areas. The $2 billion Desert Schools said its contributions have reached $75,000 including $25,000 donated to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief and is giving $1,000 to the Arizona Credit Union Foundation. The CU said in a press release, "In addition, our generous members and neighbors donated over $47,000 in just three days" prior to the Labor Day weekend. "We also assisted in counting a single donation of $1,700 coins and facilitating a $1,300 donation of checks for the American Red Cross."
