DENTON, Texas – Members brought over 4,500 pounds of paper to DATCU's recent Shred Day. Wanting to provide another way for members to protect their identity the $360 million credit union offered to shred up to three boxes per member for free. In addition DATCU staffers provided curbside service taking the boxes to bins for on-site shredding by Mobile Document Shredding. "This event runs parallel to all our stringent security measures that protect our members each and every minute of the day. This is just one simple thing we can do to help," said President/CEO Dale Kimble. "Summer is a great time to clean those closets. We hope this free event is just another way to show our commitment to identity protection and to encourage members to take action." Federal Trade Commission statistics reveal that identity theft is the fastest-growing crime in the U.S. – some 27.3 million Americans have been victimized in the last five years, including 9.9 million last year.
