HOUSTON - Shell Employees FCU has broken away from a 70-year old link. The $300 million CU has changed its name to People's Trust Federal Credit Union. It also recently expanded its membership to residents of the city of Houston. "The credit union is proud of its long association with Shell employees; however, with growth came the need to change its name," according to a statement from People's Trust FCU. The new moniker is indicative of the credit union's commitment to its members and the community, the CU said, adding because the members of a credit union are also its owners, it is important to have a name that elicits feelings of safety and security. Formed by 196 Shell employees in 1935, the CU now serves more than 29,000 members.
