SAN FRANCISCO – In what will likely be her last speech before community development credit union leaders, NCUA Board Member Debbie Matz told the assembled leaders of CDCUs that their example linked the past with the future of credit unions. Matz provided the keynote speech at the National Federation of Community Development Credit Union Annual Conference in San Francisco. "I feel confident that CDCUs represent not only the past, but the future of credit unions," Matz said. "You are living proof that credit unions continue to fulfill their statutory mission to serve people of modest means. If all credit unions stay true to the mission that you live by each and every day, the future of credit unions will be as robust and rewarding as your past." Matz, whose term expires in August, used the talk to review some of the things she said she has learned from working closely with and observing credit unions. "I learned the true meaning of `People Helping People.' It means treating each member, regardless of their income or their credit history, with respect and compassion," she said. "It means turning `Heck no, not with your credit history,' into `Yes, let's work together and make it happen.'"
