Credit Unions Sponsor D.C. Cherry Blossom 10 Miler for CMN Again

WASHINGTON-Credit union representatives were scheduled for March 31 to work on crafts with the young patients at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and present the hospital with a check from proceeds raised through credit union sponsorship of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10-Mile Run. The Credit Union Miracle Day, Inc. Board of Directors, as well as NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson and Board Member Debbie Matz, CUNA President and CEO Dan Mica, and NAFCU President and CEO Fred Becker among others were expected to participate in the event. Also anticipated to attend were Children's Hospital patient champion Katelin McMullin, racing champ and past Credit Union Cherry Blossom Race winner Bill Rodgers, and race coordinator Phil Stewart. Credit Union Miracle Day, Inc. was founded in 2001 and is a partnership of more than 85 credit unions and partner organizations supporting the Children's Miracle Network (CMN), an international non-profit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for the more than 170 children's hospitals throughout North America. One hundred percent of the funds raised by credit unions and corporate supporters go to CMN. The race is slated for April 3 and will include many credit union dignitaries, including Mica and Becker, who will be donning their sneakers and jogging shorts. Also expected to run from CUNA were Allen Chew, Thomas Gannon, and Gretchen Graf from political affairs, Linda Gualtieri and Leon Peace from legislative affairs, Nancy DeGrandi representing state governmental affairs, and Dave Klavitter of communications. From NAFCU, running will be staffers Raymond Araneta, Gail Gronlund, Melissa Pendergrass, Andrea Ansell, and Joe Boyle.
