SPOKANE, Wash. – Telco Credit Union is the latest member of an ever growing group of credit unions that have opted to change their names. Effective March 1, 2005, Telco CU has transformed into PrimeSource CU. According to execs here, since the field of membership has greatly expanded to include those who live, work and worship in the state of Washington the name Telco no longer "fits" the majority of the membership. "The name Telco has served us well over the past 70 years, but we felt the time was right as we go into our 71st year for a change in our name that allows us to continue serving our membership well into the future," said PrimeSource CU CEO Margaret Burkholz. Playing off the word "prime", which implies main, major, key or primary to tie into the credit union's goal of being members' primary financial institution and "source" to reinforce the credit union's position as a starting point or foundation for all their members' full-service financial needs, the new name is designed to appeal to a broad range of members. PrimeSource CU serves some 5,400 members and employs 19 people.
