TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida Credit Union League is still seeking help in dealing with hurricane damage. Staff and volunteers of credit unions in Florida who suffered damage in the string of hurricanes are in dire need of assistance. That is the case Guy Hood, CEO of the Florida Credit Union League made to other credit union league presidents in a September 30 letter. "Simply speaking, a lot of our credit union family is suffering today," Hood wrote of the damage that his state has undergone. Florida is the first state to have suffered four hurricanes in one season since 1886, he noted. "Our Hurricane Relief Fund is in dire need of additional funds," Hood wrote. "The League began this fund with contributions from the League and the FCUL Service Group totaling $50,000. Your generous level of support has seen an additional $165,482 being raised to date to help credit union employees and volunteers. However, the entire fund now has been committed. There is none left. And, unfortunately, more applications are coming in almost on an hourly basis." PSCU Financial Services, the card processing cooperative for over 500 credit unions which is based in Tampa, donated $25,000. "In the spirit of cooperation that characterizes the nation's credit unions, we wanted to contribute to a relief fund that offers aid to those who have suffered incredible losses from this unprecedented series of hurricanes," said David Serlo, CEO of PSCU Financial Services. "Many of our member-owner credit unions were either threatened or damaged during the hurricanes, so it is fitting that we make this contribution."
