Canadian consumers are banking and paying bills online at a much higher rate than their counterparts in the United States, according to a new report from Forrester Research. The Cambridge, Mass., research and advisory firm says that trend is likely to continue and is a natural result of Canadian financial institutions having made efforts to move their customers and members to electronic channels years before the Internet arrived on the scene. Broadband use at home also is more prevalent north of the border, the researchers found, and broadband-enabled households are 33% more likely to check balances online and 46% more likely to receive or pay bills that way than if they have slower dial-up connections.
