MONTPELIER, Vt. – The Vermont House Commerce Committee was expected to reconvene Wednesday, April 14 to address member business lending and field of membership-the two remaining important and controversial components of the legislation to rewrite the state's credit union law. A final vote was put on hold last week because of the Easter holiday, despite earlier reports that a decision would be reached. Vermont House Commerce Committee Chairman Mark Young decided not to convene on Good Friday in anticipation of legislators leaving early for the holiday weekend. Good news for credit unions – The Committee already has agreed to include language giving state-chartered credit unions the ability to exercise parity with federally chartered credit unions upon notification to the state's regulator.
