BRISBANE, Australia – Brisbane, the third largest city in Australia and the capital of Queensland, in eastern Australia will be home for five days for the credit union representatives from 31 different countries who will attend the World Council of Credit Union's 2003 International Credit Union Forum next week. Despite concerns about international terrorism and Sudden Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), more than 1,000 credit union representatives are expected will attend the event June 22-26 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. The conference is co-hosted by the Credit Union Service Corporation of Australia, Ltd. Designed around the theme of "Credit Union Value: A Compass in a Changing World," the conference agenda is designed to drive home the message that in today's international environment of uncertainty, people around the world are increasingly turning to credit unions and their values of access, growth, self-help and trust. "Those same values must continue to be our compass for a changing world driven by shareholder return, economies of scale, technological innovations, global reach and intense competition," WOCCU states. Attendees will hear guest speakers address a variety of credit union-relevant topics such as branding, technology, leadership and CU management, marketing and media relations. They'll also have the opportunity to attend breakout sessions, and of course have time to tour and take in some of the breathtaking sights of Australia and New Zealand.
