ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Alaska USA FCU, Anchorage, and Northern Schools FCU, Fairbanks both made the top five list of grantors over the past year of funds to low-income home buyers through Home$tart, a down-payment assistance program of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle. Home$tart matches money saved by participants 3 to 1, up to $5,000. Each participating financial can grant up to $200,000. The program is open to anyone who makes less than 80% of the median income in their area and who has not owned a home in the last three years. Alaska USA FCU granted $151,240, and Northern Schools FCU, Fairbanks granted $120,000. The other three top Alaska grantors were banks.
